About

Hi, I’m Angela. Nice to meet you.

First and foremost, I’m human, just like you. This is central to how I work. I approach each person as an individual, and I genuinely want to understand your unique story. I don’t see myself as the typical ‘strategy’ psychologist. Instead, I see my role as a trauma therapist, and my main focus is to get to the root cause of your suffering. I want to work with you to understand why you feel the way you do, so we can address the underlying issues together—rather than just applying a temporary fix.

I’ve trained with the Centre for Perinatal Psychology in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, as well as in Perinatal and Infant Loss. I’m one of only 90 psychologists in Australia specifically trained by this centre to work with people during the perinatal period and with a variety of pregnancy, birth and parenting related challenges. I have also undertaken advanced training in EMDR (therapy) and continue to progress through additional advanced level accreditation.

A bit about me as a person. I’m also a parent, and I’ve been on the roller-coaster of learning how to navigate the complexities of parenthood. I come at the work that I do with my own lived experience of difficult times and can deeply understand the vulnerability that comes with it. I’m also juggling family life and a career, so I get the challenges of balancing it all.

I welcome diversity in every form and aim to create a safe, neurodiversity-affirming, inclusive space for everyone—regardless of gender, ability, neurotype, or sexuality.

I wish you well on your journey.

Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch another human soul, be a human soul.

Therapies

Therapies I’m trained in:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Resource Therapy (Parts Therapy)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Schema Therapy

These therapies provide a framework for understanding and healing distress. I see myself primarily as an EMDR therapist. But my approach is integrative —I integrate different therapeutic methods that are best suited to you as an individual.

I offer both in-person sessions (Fairy Meadow, NSW) and Telehealth appointments Australia-wide. I’m comfortable and confident delivering therapy via Zoom, with years of experience in this format.

I may be the right therapist for you if you have experienced:

  • That fills you with feelings such as fear, shock, disbelief, worry, guilt, shame or self blame.

  • This could include being a victim of crime, exposure to natural disaster, or a stressful medical event.

  • This could include emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and/or physical abuse.

  • Interactions and events related to childbirth that cause overwhelming emotional distress.

  • That impact your capacity to be the parent that you would like to be.

  • Including Postnatal Anxiety, Postnatal Depression, mood difficulties while pregnant, emotional difficulties adjusting to parenthood.

  • Including low-mood and persistent sadness.

  • Absorbing others' pain in times of their distress so deeply that it affects your own well-being (i.e., Healthcare Workers or Emergency services personnel)

My Approach

My goal is to engage with clients with a genuine curiosity, aimed at increasing self-reflective capacities and deeper levels of insight. I strive to develop a sense of trust, openness, and honesty with clients to help them feel comfortable to share their thoughts and feelings.

I value authenticity and want to relate to you as a human, in a way that allows you to feel seen, heard, and understood. I strive to create a safe space, that is free from judgement, respects the vulnerability and courage that it takes to reach out for help, and values you as a unique individual.

When we work together, my approach will focus on:

  • Uncovering the root cause of your struggles.

  • Understanding that you are not “the problem”—parts of you may be struggling, and we can work on those directly.

  • Helping you build the resilience and confidence that you need to navigate challenges.

I believe that by exploring beliefs and triggers, I can help increase self-awareness and help clients better understand their own motivations and behaviours.

I focus on creating a safe space for individuals to support them in understanding and processing their personal experiences, in order to build emotional resilience.

I am trauma informed which means that first and foremost, I believe that a person needs to feel safe within the counselling room and also within the therapeutic relationship.

“I believe that every single one of us has periods of time where we need some extra support, care and understanding, and that part of the human condition is to struggle, and no one is immune from experiencing tough seasons in life.”

- Angela Chadwick, Psychologist
